HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus

I recently purchased two HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus servers for a home lab. My goal of the home lab is to obtain my VCP and RHCSA. There are several varieties and options available for the Gen10 Plus.

Storage / HDD

Hard Drives / Solid State Drives

The hard drives (HDD) / Solid State Drives (SSD) are non-hot plug SATA drives. The internal drives are mounted using included screws. Any 2.5″ drives require an adapter / caddy. See below for an option I use. 
 

 Storage Controllers

There are two storage options available: S100i Software RAID and the Marvell 88SE9230. The S100i Software RAID is not supported by all operating systems, including vSphere. The Marvell RAID controller is supported by Windows, Linux, and vSphere. 

S100i Software supports RAID 0 and RAID 1. 

Marvell RAID supports RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 10.

Network Controller

Low Profile

Out-of-band Management (iLO)

HPE does not include out-of-band management by default. The iLO Enabement kit is required, which includes a dedicated NIC, e-mail based alerting, virtual KVM, virtual media via Integrated Remote Console. iLO 5 is the version available. 

Without the iLO Enablement kit, the Gen10 only supports in-band management features.
